Wind conditions for wingfoiling in Fuerteventura
One of the biggest reasons wingfoilers visit Fuerteventura is its consistent wind. Thanks to the northeast trade winds, the island offers reliable riding conditions throughout much of the year, making it one of the best places in Europe for both beginners and experienced riders.
While you can wingfoil in every season, wind strength and consistency vary depending on the time of year and where you ride.

Good to know! While the table above reflects the typical wind patterns in Fuerteventura, conditions can vary from year to year. For example, this past winter (winter season 2025/2026) was much windier than average, providing great riding conditions for both beginners and advanced wingfoilers. The seasons are not always the same.
Summer: The best time for strong wind
From June to August, the north wind is at its most consistent, bringing reliable conditions to many of the island’s wingfoiling spots. Depending on the day and the location, these conditions can suit everyone from beginners to experienced riders. With a range of spots to choose from, it’s usually possible to find a location that matches your level.
Spring and Autumn: A great balanca
Many riders prefer spring and autumn because they combine reliable wind with warmer water, comfortable temperatures, and fewer visitors. While the wind isn’t quite as strong as in midsummer, there are still plenty of excellent wingfoiling days. These shoulder seasons are ideal if you want quality conditions without the busiest beaches.
Winter: Absolutely still worth considering
Winter brings more variable weather, but Fuerteventura remains one of the windiest Canary Islands. You’ll still find plenty of rideable days, especially when Atlantic weather systems combine with the trade winds. For many visitors escaping colder climates, winter offers an excellent opportunity to enjoy warm weather and quality wingfoil sessions.
Although summer is the windiest season, winter can also deliver excellent wingfoiling conditions. This season (2025/2026), we’ve had consistent wind throughout the winter.
It’s been perfect for teaching beginners at FuerteWingfoil, while I’ve also enjoyed many great freeride and wave sessions myself. If you’re planning a winter escape, Fuerteventura is definitely worth considering.
Does the wind blow everywhere?
Not exactly. Wind strength and water conditions vary across the island. Some beaches are more sheltered and beginner-friendly, while others are fully exposed to the trade winds and better suited to experienced riders.
Choosing the right spot for the forecast and your skill level is just as important as choosing the right season.
Best wingfoil spots in Fuerteventura
Fuerteventura has dozens of wingfoil spots, but the best location depends on the wind direction, your experience level, and the type of session you’re looking for.
Overall, the north of Fuerteventura offers the greatest variety of wingfoil spots.
You’ll find everything from flat-water beaches for beginners to wave spots and freeride locations, all within a relatively short drive of each other.
Some of the most popular wingfoil spots are:
- Corralejo Bay (Waikiki): One of the best beginner-friendly spots on the island, offering flat water and easy beach access.
- Majanicho: A popular wave spot for more experienced riders looking for swell and stronger conditions.
- Puerto Lajas: Another excellent wave location, ideal when the conditions line up.
In the south, Sotavento Lagoon or Costa Calma are also great wingfoil spots, especially during the summer trade wind season.

Where to stay for a wingfoil trip to Fuerteventura
If you’re planning a wingfoil trip to Fuerteventura, I recommend staying in the north of the island. Not only does it offer the greatest variety of wingfoil spots, but it’s also one of the liveliest and most enjoyable parts of Fuerteventura.
The north gives you easy access to a wide range of beaches, restaurants, cafés, shops, and other activities, making it an excellent base both on and off the water.
Corralejo
Corralejo is the perfect base for a wingfoil holiday. Besides offering a vibrant atmosphere with excellent restaurants, bars, cafés, and surf shops, you’ll find Corralejo Bay (Waikiki Beach) right in town, one of the island’s best beginner-friendly wingfoil spots.
Within a short drive, you can also reach popular locations such as Flag Beach, Majanicho, and Puerto Lajas, giving you plenty of options to match the day’s wind and conditions.
El Cotillo
If you prefer a more relaxed atmosphere, El Cotillo is a good choice. This charming fishing village is known for its beautiful beaches, excellent seafood restaurants, and laid-back lifestyle. It’s perfect if you want a quieter base while still being close to great wingfoil conditions.
Lajares
Located between Corralejo and El Cotillo (mainland) Lajares has become a favourite among surfers, wingfoilers, and digital nomads. The village offers a peaceful setting with great cafés and restaurants, while giving you easy access to both coasts depending on the day’s conditions.
No matter which of these three places you choose, you’ll be well positioned to enjoy both the best wingfoil spots and everything else northern Fuerteventura has to offer.
Rent a Car - highly recommended!
If you’re planning a wingfoil trip to Fuerteventura, I highly recommend renting a car. While the island isn’t huge, the best wingfoil spots are spread along the coastline, and wind conditions can vary from one beach to another.
Having a rental car gives you the flexibility to choose the best spot each day instead of being limited to a single location.
Car rental in Fuerteventura is also surprisingly affordable. In many cases, renting a car for your holiday costs little more than a return taxi from the airport, while giving you complete freedom to explore the island.
Even if you’re not wingfoiling every day, a car makes it much easier to visit beautiful beaches, local restaurants, viewpoints, and villages like El Cotillo and Lajares. Or going down south one day.
More than just a wingfoil destination
One of the reasons so many riders return to Fuerteventura year after year is that the island has much more to offer than just great wind. After a day on the water, you can relax at one of the many beach bars in Corralejo or El Cotillo, enjoy fresh seafood at a local restaurant, or watch the sunset with a drink overlooking the ocean.
Compared to many other European holiday destinations, Fuerteventura is also very affordable, making it easy to enjoy good food and drinks without spending a fortune.
